Disney World – 2017 – Travel Day

The day finally arrived..we were on our way to Walt Disney World! We got to  Newark airport around 8:00am for our 11:15am flight and met up with my family. Once through security we picked a location for breakfast.

It seemed that each restaurant throughout the terminal served the same breakfast. We opted for this small bar in the middle of the terminal where my dad normally eats breakfast before traveling for work. Tom ordered two eggs over easy with bacon, toast, and potatoes and I had the vegetable breakfast sandwich with roasted mushrooms, peppers, and brussel sprouts. It was also topped with cheddar and parmesan cheese. I was clearly in vacation mode. Not to mention the potatoes were cut up french fries… so good!

Our flight was delayed 15 minutes, but made up the time in the air. After watching 3 episodes of Fixer Upper, and Tom watched Baby Driver, we had finally landed in Orlando.

We boarded the Magical Express and were on our way to Fort Wilderness Resort and Camp Grounds!

Fort Wilderness is awesome! This was our first time staying there and it did not disappoint. Our check-in process was easy and we were able to book a golf cart for our time there (which is needed because the property is huge and it will save you a ton of time). Our room was ready right away. I was even able to live out a life long dream of telling the people at the front desk we were celebrating being engaged! I got my Happily Ever After pin!

Once all checked in, a nice man drove us and our bags over to cabin 2623 in Moccasin Trail. He helped us take our luggage up and made each of us check to make sure our magic bands were working properly. Cast members are the best!

Here’s a quick rundown of the cabins. They are adorable and very cozy. They comfortably sleep 6 people with plenty of room to spare. Considering they see a lot of foot traffic they are meticulously kept, but there was clearly some wear from people not taking care of it. You’re in Disney World people treat the property with respect!

Once unpacked, we headed over to P&J’s Southern Takeout for a very late lunch. My whole family opted for turkey wraps, while Tom and I stuck with our tradition of cheese burgers. Let me tell you… these cheese burgers were awesome and I was too hungry to stop for a pic. Just take my word for it… they are good!

Disney springs was next on our itinerary so, we quickly got cleaned up and boarded the bus to the dining and shopping district.

It was a Sunday night so Disney Springs was crowded, so crowded that it was tough to get around. We slowly walked over to Dockside Margaritas for a pre-dinner drink. My dad recommended the Habanero Lime Margarita (Patrón Silver Tequila, Habanero Lime, fresh Lime Juice and Florida Sugar Cane Simple Syrup), so we decided to get 2. While the bartender prepared our drinks he teased Tom for originally being from New Jersey because he’s from Brooklyn. Again, cast members always elevate each experience.

Our dinner reservation was at Boathouse, a restaurant I’ve been dying to try thanks to thetimtracker.  Boathouse is a steakhouse on the waterfront of Disney springs with a large menu of amazing food.

Review: I give Boathouse 4.5 out of 5 stars. It’s only missing the 0.5 because if you eat inside the restaurant is very loud. We were lucky enough to eat outside on the water which topped off our nautical experience. Our waitress was very a lot of fun showing us games with the wine cork. Cast members rock! The food alone is a 5 out of 5. It was fantastic!

My mom and I decided to share. We started with the Chopped Salad, which was a bowl of antipasta. The flavor profile was tart and salty hitting all the bells and whistles. Tom also ordered this salad. For our entree, my mom and I shared Coriander Seared Ahi Tuna, Blistered Shishito Peppers, Soy Lime Vinaigrette, Wasabi Mayo, Sriracha. The Broiled Atlantic Swordfish Steak caught Tom’s eye, Grilled Vegetables, Garlic Butter, Smoked Tomato-White Balsamic Concassé.

After dinner walked over to one of our New York City staples; Sprinkles Cupcakes. We picked up three delicious cupcakes, vanilla frosted banana, dark chocolate frosted banana, and a classic dark chocolate. Tom and I love Sprinkles! If you have never been TREAT YOURSELF!

We brought our treats back to the cabin and drifted off to dream land ready to tackle our first full day.
